Jeanne Sauve White Quebec parish guide
SAUVE "Saves" the Day!Mind you, I had several other reference books on Researching the Catholic Parishes of Quebec Province, but this little gem is so very different than all the others. No one but Jeanne SAUVE WHITE lists everyone who has worked on parish registers NEXT to the name of the parish itself. What a boon to researchers! This alone will save untold hours of unnecessary research.
Additionally, critical information is included, such as: the Diocese in which the parishes are included. Every good Catholic researcher knows that diocesan records are worth their weight in gold, especially if the local parish register has met with a sorry demise. Catholic records in general are ALWAYS dupicated, at least once a year, and submitted to the local bishop--therefore the term "Bishopric Record"! I NEVER want to hear again, "the records were burnt in a church fire".
While everyone doing serious research in a specific area should have a trustworthy map, Jeanne SAUVE WHITE goes above AND beyond by including City references and approximate locations of the parishes--a researcher's dream come true!
My copy is "dog-eared" as I use it over and over again. For those wishing to purchase a copy of Jeanne SAUVE WHITE's book will be pleased to learn that the Genealogical Publishing Co. of Baltimore Maryland is about to put out an additional printing. Amazon.com is undoubtedly aware of this and will gladly supply your needs now with used copies and later on, those "hot-off-the-press"!!!

I was charmedThank you, Naomi Miller, for giving me many evenings of pleasure.
the author signs inOne of the people pictured in the book wrote to me: "Thanks a million for your wonderful book. I've just spent a while taking refuge from a grumpy evening by flipping through it, pausing to read about the parts of your life I don't know. How wonderfully generous of you to enshrine us like this, with such precise evocation of time, space, foolishness & purpose."
Another friend wrote:"Your lovely book of drawings and watercolors arrived yeaterday. [We] were immediately entranced by the images and text--such an amusing, informative down-to-earth description life on the dig. The watercolors are really wonderful, but I've always known that.... I had never seen the Shiraz bazaar or Malyan village scenes. Then there are all the pals: ...--they evoke such memories! Is that Dash, the Wonder Dog, on the back cover? Remember, he had a "thing' for you, invading your bedroom with his cargo of fleas! And there he is, wagging his tail at your photograph. Plate 16 is a sweet rendering of my favorite view of Yassihöyük. The Euphrates views are as close as I ever need to get to that old river. Finally, I love all the little sketches scattered throughout--especially the birds and animals. Thanks again for the originals, which I treasure, and thanks for the book. ..."
And another friend wrote: "...Your book is wonderful: your narrative is a delight to read and you know how much I admire your watercolors--each is exquisite w/ great sureness of line, balance of composition pacing & repetition that makes a whole of the multi-paneled ones, and of course great use of colors to die for. I love them! I am lucky to have seen many in incomparable person but there were some that were new to me--the luminosity of the originals and your wonderful backlighting were undiminished in reproduction. Of course we love best of all discovering new things in the plates with each reading.
Congratulations in getting your book out. I am so happy that everyone else will get to share in the pleasure of looking at them.
Thank you again, I am most proud to possess a copy so wonderfully inscribed!"
I won't bore you with the rest of the rave reviews!

A Great Introduction to Stoic PhilosophyEpictetus, like Socrates, apparently never wrote anything himself; however, his students took very good notes. One student by the name of Flavius Arrian may be responsible for the composition of eight volumes, titled "The Discourses of Epictetus," of which four volumes still survive. Arrian served under Emperor Hadrian who initially choose Atticus to be Marcus Aurelius' teacher. Arrian also wrote another text, titled "The Encheiridion of Epictetus" (or "Handbook" or "Manual"), which also survives and appears to be an abstract of his "Discourses". Throughout the second century, Epictetus was regarded as the greatest of the Stoic philosophers, and became even more popular than Plato. Stoicism nevertheless lost favor in the middle ages and was not revived until 1584 when Justus Lipsius published his "De Constantia".
I would highly recommend the writings of Epictetus to anyone interested in Stoic Philosophy, or anyone at all for that matter. Epictetus should make for an excellent introduction to Stoic Philosophy, and the "Encheiridion" is an excellent introduction to Epictetus. I prefer this particular translation of "The Encheiridion of Epictetus", by Nicholas P. White, over the other translations that I have read. Oldfather's translation (Loeb Classical Library) is also very good.

The most beautiful book I have ever seen.

Timeless Entertainment!
Great!

Absolutely fabulous!
This is a beautiful book.
I was searching for Quebec books and saw this out-of-print book. This is without a doubt the best book of its kind I have seen. I bought a thousand or so microfiche only to realize they didn't have the counties listed without taking each fiche out and reading the first page. With Jeanne's book I literally have worn it out and have to put a new binding on it from constant usage of her book! I cannot say enough about this great book.
I will say.. I think she missed a couple towns... but errors happen to only those who do things~ GREAT GREAT book.. and no I have never met the gal.
